McAlester Behavioral Health (Wind Horse Counseling), situated in the northern central area of the Choctaw Nation, provides a variety of mental health services for individuals, families, and couples. The center addresses issues such as substance abuse, anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. Native Americans from any federally recognized tribe who possess a CDIB card, tribal membership card, or documentation of descent are eligible for support, often at no cost. The center offers therapy for individuals of all ages, crisis intervention, and virtual consultations. The center employs several therapeutic methods, including play therapy aimed at children with special needs, peer support specifically for veterans, and comprehensive case management services. This range of therapies is designed to help clients develop coping strategies, enhance their relationships, and promote overall mental health. By providing diverse therapeutic options, the center is able to cater to the specific needs of each client. Moreover, McAlester Behavioral Health engages in targeted initiatives such as the Tribal Opioid Response grant, which aids those impacted by opioid addiction through medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and cravings. The center also partners with the Warrior Wellness program, offering culturally relevant services for Native American veterans, which include equine therapy, family retreats, and peer support. Services are primarily focused on tribal members, with some limited exceptions for non-tribal individuals.
The rehabilitation center specializes in addressing issues related to substance use and mental health. Patients can expect personalized treatment tailored to their specific needs and diagnoses, gain essential skills for recovery, and foster new relationships within a supportive atmosphere.
Individuals who possess a CDIB card, a Membership card, or documentation proving descent from a federally recognized tribe are qualified to receive services. Our facility accepts various forms of payment, including Medicaid, Medicare, private health insurance, and offers support for those who are uninsured.
