P.E.A.S.E. Academy, founded in February 1989, stands as the oldest recovery high school in the United States, catering to students in grades 8 through 12 within a nurturing atmosphere that merges academic achievement with recovery support services. Situated within the University Lutheran Church of Hope in Minneapolis, the academy offers Unlimited Transit Passes for its students, along with easy access to public transportation and available on-site parking. P.E.A.S.E. Academy emphasizes a holistic approach to the well-being of its students. The institution features a rigorous yet supportive educational setting characterized by small class sizes, which fosters individualized attention. Daily activities seamlessly incorporate recovery resources, including peer support groups, all-school check-in sessions, access to licensed substance abuse counselors, and sober recreational options. As a tuition-free charter school, P.E.A.S.E. Academy ensures that quality education remains accessible for those in recovery.
The focus of this center is on addressing substance use disorders, offering assistance in achieving stability, developing strategies to prevent relapse, and facilitating connections to empathetic support.
At P.E.A.S.E. Academy, we are dedicated to supporting our students’ educational and recovery journeys without financial barriers. As a tuition-free charter school, we ensure that quality education is accessible to all students in recovery, regardless of their economic background. While we currently do not require direct payment for tuition, we understand that some families may seek support for additional services, resources, or outside therapies that may complement our recovery-focused educational model. To facilitate this, we encourage families to explore insurance coverage options that may be available to them. Various providers may offer plans that cover mental health and substance use disorder treatment, which can be beneficial to students engaged in their recovery. We recommend that families contact their insurance providers to understand the specifics of their coverage and inquire about any available benefits that support education and recovery services. Our administrative team is here to assist in navigating these options and will work collaboratively with families to ensure that our students have the necessary support for both their educational and recovery needs. At P.E.A.S.E. Academy, we believe in fostering an inclusive environment where all students can thrive academically while receiving essential recovery resources.
