South County Psychiatry provides a virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) designed for individuals in Rhode Island and surrounding areas who are facing mental health challenges. This program allows participants to receive care from their own homes. It employs a comprehensive strategy that integrates personalized therapy, medication oversight, and group sessions. Clients benefit from individual meetings with psychologists several times a week, who utilize advanced behavioral therapies, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Additionally, clients have regular consultations with psychiatrists, who work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to manage and prescribe necessary medications. The program includes two forms of group therapy: one focuses on teaching coping mechanisms, while the other provides opportunities to practice these skills. South County Psychiatry strives to coordinate with clients and their healthcare teams to ensure ongoing support after the program concludes. Prior to joining the program, clients are required to obtain a referral, ideally from a healthcare professional, although self-referrals are also accepted. An initial assessment, lasting between 2 to 3 hours, occurs the day before treatment begins, enabling providers to tailor a specific treatment plan. The IOP operates Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 12:30 PM, offering two group sessions along with individual therapy each day. Most clients typically engage in the program for a duration of 3 to 6 weeks, aiming to reduce symptoms and facilitate a return to everyday activities.
