The Health & Wellness Center (HWC) stands as the largest Community Health Center (CHC) located in rural Oklahoma. This initiative took root in 2003, spearheaded by a group of community-focused individuals who recognized the critical need for accessible and affordable healthcare. Since 2005, they have dedicated themselves to serving southeastern Oklahoma with the unwavering aim of delivering quality healthcare. Presently, the center operates seven clinics, three pharmacies, and two residential recovery centers for substance use, along with a mobile dental unit that extends care across their designated areas. The Oaks of McAlester caters to both men and women dealing with substance use disorders, including mothers with children. Meanwhile, the Pines of Poteau serves as the latest addition to the HWC network, focusing on the treatment of adult males aged 18 and above for substance use disorders. HWC offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) options such as Suboxone for those struggling with opioid use disorder, and many of their services are accessible virtually. In 2021, HWC expanded its reach by introducing 20 Head Start programs, benefitting approximately 700 children. The mission of the Health & Wellness Center is to deliver holistic support, enhance lives through community investment, and elevate overall quality of life.
The Rehabilitation Center provides specialized treatment for issues related to substance use and mental health. Here, you can expect personalized support tailored to your specific needs and diagnosis, acquire essential skills for your recovery journey, and foster new relationships within a healing atmosphere.
The center accepts a variety of payment options, including private insurance, Medicare, Oklahoma Medicaid/SoonerCare, and offers services for those who are uninsured or under-insured, with costs determined by family size and income level.
